NAMM 2020 Guitar Pedal Announcements

Howdy Folks!!

NAMM 2020 is amongst us! And once again, I’m just a nobody, so I’m not there. But, there is a bunch of awesome gear announcements coming out, so I’m going to try to consolidate them here for you with my initial thoughts without having actually touched any of these products. Sounds fun, right?

I’m going to divide separate blogs between pedals, guitars, and amps. This will be the pedal one since I was able to put it together first.

I’ll keep adding to this list as more information becomes available, so be sure to check back!!

Line 6

Pod Go. This has the sounds and patches from the Helix, but without all the deep dive editing for more of a plug-n-play setup. At $450, Line 6 may have just convinced my cheap ass to come back to modeling. Especially with the ability to load 3rd party IRs, and have adjusted and separate outputs for going both to front of house and to an amp on stage for monitoring. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Line-6/POD-Go-Guitar-Multi-Effects-Processor.gc

Specs:

  • Best-in-class performance
  • Simple Interface with large color display
  • Compact, ultra-portable, lightweight design
  • 270+ HX and legacy amp and effects models
  • Third-party IR loading
  • Stereo effects loop and expression pedal/footswitch input
  • Free POD Go Edit app

MXR

-Timmy

Bringing a popular but small-batch pedal to the masses at $129.99, also making it pedalboard friendly.   https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TimmyOD–mxr-timmy-overdrive-pedal

-Dookie V.2, no difference in circuit, just different graphics, meh https://www.jimdunlop.com/product/dd25v2-7-10137-12123-2.do?sortby=ourPicks&refType=&from=fn&ecList=&ecCategory=

Morley

20/20 Wahs, Distortion wah, lead wah, and power fuzz wah. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=12&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwj7mK7wpIjnAhUCJKwKHdtwBIAQFjALegQIBRAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.morleyproducts.com%2F2020-pedals-press-release%2F&usg=AOvVaw0MO8a2X4VPT6rZ2vG_8ii2

They’re all compact, have the step-on type activation.  The distortion and fuzz ones have seperate switched to engage the drives seperately, so these can effectively be two pedals in one on your pedalboard, very cool stuff.  Retail for $139-$159

Danelectro

-3699 Fuzz, which is a foxx tone like the French Toast, except now it comes with a mid-boost option, so hopefully is cures issues with the French Toast with getting lost in the mix, $199 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/3699Fuzz–danelectro-3699-fuzz-pedal

-Back Talk reverse delay.  This is one popular a decade or two ago, but it the huge footprint that Danelectro is known for, this reissues it but in a more pedalboard friendly size. $199

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BackTalkDly–danelectro-back-talk-reverse-delay-pedal

-Roebuck, a mosfet gain pedal with a 3 band EQ and 3 clipping modes.  I tend to like mosfet distortions, maybe it’s snakeoil, but I’m excited to try this. $199 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RoebuckDist–danelectro-roebuck-distortion-pedal

Quilter

Phantom Block: A guitar preamp and cab sim in one that can be powered by 48v phantom power from the mixer or 9v, and only $99. Perfect backup to bring to the gig or just go direct for smaller affairs. I’m extremely excited for this. https://www.quilterlabs.com/index.php/product/phantom-block/

Vox

Valvenergy https://voxamps.com/series/valvenergy/

-Mystic Egde based on a AC30

-Copperhead Drive for classic rock stack

-Silk Drive  “boutique amp”

-Cutting Edge for metal

-Has Nutube in it

-3 modes: One for using it as a normal pedal, one for using it as a preamp, and another with analog cab sim

-no price yet

Mooer

A7 Ambiance and D7 Delay http://www.mooeraudio.co.uk/c/pedals

-Ultra programmable reverb and delay pedals with the ability to save presets for $99 each.  I could get down with these.

Once again, check back in the days to come, I’m sure this list will grow!!

Cheers, Chuck
